Who We Are
Subichar is a non-profit organisation based in Dhaka, Bangladesh with mission to confront impunity, support justice, and preserve truth, with regards to international crimes.
International crimes are the most serious violations of international law that threaten global peace, security, and human dignity. These crimes are recognized under international law and are considered offenses against the international community as a whole. The core international crimes are :-
(1) Genocide: Acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group;
(2) Crimes Against Humanity: Widespread or systematic attacks directed against civilians, including murder, enslavement, torture, sexual violence, forced displacement, and persecution;
(3) War Crimes: Grave breaches of the laws and customs of war, including targeting civilians, use of prohibited weapons, and abuse of prisoners of war; and
(4) The Crime of Aggression: The use of armed force by a state against the sovereignty or independence of another state in violation of international law.

Our Story
Bangladesh holds a unique place in global justice history – being the only country to have prosecuted international crimes across two distinct periods: first, for the atrocities committed during the 1971 Liberation War, and later, for the atrocities committed during July-August 2024 (July Uprising). This legacy inspires us to continue the pursuit of justice, not only to honor our own history but to contribute meaningfully to the global fight against impunity.
Based on the inspiration, Subichar combines local insight with global perspective. We started as a Bangladesh-based initiative and now aim to connect with international justice efforts -ensuring that legal recourse, healing, and remembrance reach those who need it most.
The platform is run by a multi-disciplinary collaboration of experts and practitioners from law, human rights, anthropology, psychology and political science.
